Today is day three of "Bringing Sexy Back".
Project: Bringing Sexy Back
Who: Me, Eliza-Jane
When: Starting September 7th 2010, ending September 7th 2011
What: A dedication to get fit and lose weight. The goal is to drop a size by this time next year
Why: I was a chubby child. Then I was a thin vegetarian for 10 years. Then I started eating meat again (long story why), and have been slowly gaining weight ever since. It doesn't seem to matter what I do, I just can't get back to my svelt self. There was a time when I was a size 6. Now I'm a size 12 and am described as "curvy". I'm nearing 30, and I'd rather not continue this upward trend.
The Snafu: I'm Candidic, meaning that I've got a yeast intolerance (in my digestive system). It took about two years of me being sick - really sick - and going to all sorts of doctors and specialists who all labeled me "spastic" and said "hopefully you'll grow out of it" before a doctor in Scotland finally properly diagnosed me. Anyway. Avoiding yeast itself is easy enough, but to really keep it in check I need to stay away from anything that feeds yeast. This includes sugars, both natural and artificial. So no fruit or cane sugar. It also means nothing malted or fermented (although I am allowed wine) and nothing acidic (although I can have lemons and tomatoes).
The Plan: To follow the candida diet as best I can. I am also going to walk as much as I can, and go to yoga at least four times a week. When I come across a recipe I really love, I'll share it with you. I'll also share any breakthroughs I have.
The Partner: My cousin, Eric. We're not only family, we're good friends. And even though he lives in Ottawa while I live in Vancouver, we are each bringing our own Sexy Back, and are encouraging each other along the way. I am so lucky to have him on board. He is literally the most inspiring and awe-inducing person I know, and I couldn't be more proud of him. In just over two years, he went from being almost 300lbs to running a marathon and being in better shape than most people I know. You can read his story here.
So, fingers crossed. Here we go. :-)
I'm so excited for you as you start out on this journey. Maybe you can inspire me to get a program going for myself. Proud of you! xox
