oh! the places you'll go! -

I was reminded of Dr. Seuss' "Oh!  The places you'll go!" today, and after I google searched it, I couldn't stop reading it.  I must have read it about half a dozen times today - I'm really identifying with a few of the stanzas right now.

Tomorrow's a very big day for me.  For the past year I've been temping as an admin assistant.  A far cry from teaching (and acting), I know.  But my office has become my community, my colleagues my friends.  And in a country that's not my own, these are very precious things.

Like I said, though, it's just been a temporary position (a long term one, but still).  Up until now, my position hasn't been permanent.  Now, due to a restructure, it's becoming permanent and they've openly advertised it.  And it's not guaranteed that I'll get it, despite the fact that it's "my" job.

And who knows....I might end up back in teaching....

I have prepared so much for this interview, and yet when The Fella asks me mock questions I get nervous and tongue tied and I stammer.  How do you stop yourself from getting in your own way?

Wherever you go, you will top all the rest.

Except when you don't
Because, sometimes, you won't.

I'm sorry to say so
but, sadly, it's true
and Hang-ups
can happen to you.

And what if I don't get the job?  What does that say, when I've been doing it (and doing it well, according to my feedback) for just over a year?  I remember my last period of unemployment.  I was so down that I went back to Canada to re-group.  I'm worried about ending back up in that place again.  And I'm sure The Fella's worried about that, too.

All alone!
Whether you like it or not,
Alone will be something
you'll be quite a lot.

And when you're alone, there's a very good chance
you'll meet things that scare you right out of your pants.
There are some, down the road between hither and yon,
that can scare you so much you won't want to go on.

God I love Dr. Seuss.

You'll get mixed up, of course,
as you already know.
You'll get mixed up
with many strange birds as you go.
So be sure when you step.
Step with care and great tact
and remember that Life's
a Great Balancing Act.
Just never forget to be dexterous and deft.
And never mix up your right foot with your left.

And will you succeed?
Yes!  You will, indeed!
(98 and 3/4 percent guaranteed.)

Who knows.  By the time you read this I'll probably know whether I did a good interview or not, and what my next steps will be........
