I realize some of these might appear harmless enough, when taken out of the full context of the conversation. But these have really peeved either one or both of us.
In response to finding out we're engaged:
"Congratulations. Marriage is tough. I hope it works out for you."
Comment made when their wedding was in their hometown, and ours is overseas, and when they had a wedding planner and we do not, and they're aware of all of this:
"Oh, I remember planning my wedding. I know exactly what you're going through."
In relation to planning their trip to our wedding:
"We have a lot to organize, you know. This is a big trip."
Yes. And we have a lot to organize, too, you know.
In response to my wanting to lose weight for the day:
"You don't have to be a thin bride."
In relation to the various stresses of planning a wedding:
"Just enjoy the process and have fun with it."
Yes. But it IS allowed to be stressful, both financially and emotionally. Especially when we're paying for it all ourselves, we do not have a wedding coordinator/planner, and we're having our wedding in a country neither of us are familiar with or have "people" in.
