diner en blanc - or, a magical evening at bondi beach

So Diner en Blanc happened this past weekend, and let me tell you, it was magical.

Diner en Blanc is an annual event that happens all over the world (although the time of year differs with the country).  It's essentially a fancy outdoor dinner party with 3000 of your closest friends, where everybody wears white.  It's all very mysterious, too, as the location is kept a secret!

Seriously.  It reminded me of a rave from the '90s; as it was a secret location, we got onto a charter bus  at a designated meeting point, and we didn't know where we were going until we got there.  There are very strict rules that go along with this event, too.  To name just a few:

  • guests are only invited through social networks;
  • guests must wear all white;
  • guests must bring their own white table and chairs - fitting the required dimensions;
  • no body is allowed to start eating until the ceremonial waving of the dinner napkins at 7:15pm.
It was very cool.  Sydney this year hosted the world's very first DeB beach location!  They literally closed off part of Bondi Beach to the public - a very iconic location in Sydney - and 3000 of us set up our tables and chairs and collected our dinner hampers, and ate on the beach!  Seriously - on the sands of Sydney's most iconic beach!  And one of the best parts?  Most of us were barefoot, abandoning our shoes for the soft sand between our toes.

The Fella and I have been looking forward to this for weeks, and let me tell you, it did not disappoint.  We can't stop gushing about it, and I cannot wait for it next year!

Best.  Date.  Ever.

  3. Oh how wonderful that you went! We went to the first Sydney one in 2012, but skipped this one because we'd just come back from an overseas holiday. We've been to 3 now and I've worn the same outfit to all 3 of them, oops! Maybe see you at this year's one?! It looked so beautiful!
