So I've recently discovered something in Vancouver. Swing Nights! Every Saturday night, at the Legion down on Commercial Drive (in East Vancouver) they have swing dancing nights! Professional swing dancers give a free lesson from 8-9pm, then it's just go go go on the dance floor until sometime past midnight. Let me tell you, this is the most fun I've had in ages. I took swing dancing lessons with my best friend about 8 years ago, but I've forgotten a lot since then. I've been slowly picking it up.
It's such a great night out! The place is packed, believe it or not, and even if you came with somebody, you hardly actually see them throughout the night because you're so busy dancing with different people. Everybody is so friendly, and everybody dances with everybody else. And you'd think it's all older people, but it's not! It's mostly the 25-35 age range, which is fantastic. And once a month they have a live swing band.
And guess what? My birthday is next month, and it just so happens to fall on a night where there's a live swing band!! I think I've decided what I'm going to do for my birthday. My only hope is that my friends come, and don't let the $20 cover (it's expensive on band nights) or the lack of alcohol deter them. Fingers crossed.
