This is the wettest summer Sydney has seen in 51 years and I, of course, left my rain boots back in Canada. Back home (Vancouver), rain boots are an essential part of a girl's wardrobe. They're fashionable, even. Almost every store that sells clothing also sells rain boots. So, knowing that Sydney's winter is a wet one, and knowing that this is a wet summer, you can imagine my surprise when I went hunting for rain boots yesterday and couldn't find any! I found a pair of hunters (yes!), but they were $200! Just for a regular pair! I even went into target, and there were none. I asked the sales girl where I could get a pair, and she looked me up and down and said in a very snooty voice "I don't know. I'm not the type of person to wear rain boots." I just stared at her. "So what do you do when it rains?" I asked, "just wear your shoes and let them get ruined?" She just looked at me. Sigh.
So instead, I'm thinking of purchasing these beauties online. Tell me, do you own rain boots?

Those are cute! I bought a pair of Aigle rain boots last year on Gilt.com for a good price. I've tried Hunters too because everyone seems to be obsessed with them, but to be honest, they feel too heavy for me! My fave rain boots ever were a pair I got at Urban Outfitters a few years ago, but after over a year of wearing them In NYC rain, the rubber seam at the back tore. And I don't think there's a way to repair rubber... I was so bummed. But the Aigle ones are treating me well so far....

Oh yes... here in Australia we don't wear rainboots as it usually doesn't rain for long enough to warrant it (or if it does, it dries out quickly!). Hunters only just started growing in popularity last year... I bought my first pair for the NYC winter and they are currently gathering dust over there!
