I keep going back to one part, near the beginning, in which she talks about the pressures of women to look a certain way. She writes (from Pg 23)
Now Every girl is expected to have:
- Caucasian blue eyes
- full Spanish lips
- a classic button nose
- hairless Asian skin with a Californian tan
- a Jamaican dance hall ass
- long Swedish legs
- small Japanese feet
- the abs of a lesbian gym owner
- the hips of a nine-year-old boy
- the arms of Michelle Obama
- and doll tits
The person closest to actually achieving this look is Kim Kardashian, who, as we know, was made by Russian scientists to sabotage our athletes. Everyone else is struggling.
As a "real size", "curvy" woman who only has the classic button nose from the list above, I love it. However, I wasn't so impressed when Tina - who is exactly my height - said she was "a little bit fat" when she was a size 12. I'm a size 12, and although I don't think of myself as thin, I certainly don't think I'm "a little bit fat". Not cool, Tina, not cool.

I was just singing her praises last night! :) She's so right about all those stressors to be a woman that's nearly impossible.
ReplyDeleteBut, I have to agree with you: Sometimes I wish women in the media were more careful when addressing the topic of weight and sizes. While size 12 might not have been her ideal size, it doesn't mean that loads of other women can't look gorgeous at that size...or that even more women wouldn't kill to squeeze into a size 12! :)
I LOVE this!!! I too have the button nose. Nothing else on that list! Hilarious.
ReplyDeleteI do agree w/ you about the weight thing, too. I'm overweight, desperately trying to lose, but when i hear someone in a size 12 or even (god forbid!) 14 saying something about being fat - serious or not - i just want to smack them. I do not consider that fat AT ALL. And i have skinny friends who can barely grab any fat to pinch & they moan about it! I like curves. And so does my husband!
